The Ahwatukee Country Club, which had previously been put up for sale by owner Wilson Gee in mid-2015, will continue to operate as a golf course, according to a release by the Foothills Golf Group on behalf of Gee.

“The Ahwatukee Country Club is woven into the fabric of the Ahwatukee Foothills,” Gee stated. “Since its opening in the 1970s, the ACC has been an integral part of the community.

“With that in mind, it is my intention to continue operating the ACC as a golf course for the community to enjoy.”

Gee originally purchased the course along with the Lakes Golf Course in 2006 for $4 million. The Lakes Golf Course had subsequently been sold to The True Life Companies and closed earlier in 2015, with ACC going up for sale in July.

Jon Knudson of Insight Land and Investments, the same individual who had sold both courses to Gee nine years earlier, was chosen to lead the sale. With controversy surrounding the closure of the Lakes Golf Course, which The True Life Companies is looking to develop into a new residential area, there had been some concern expressed over the future of the ACC.

Gee said that the property is being marketed to possible buyers as a golf course rather than a possible site of future development.

“I have heard loud and clear from Ahwatukee residents their passion for keeping the ACC as a golf course,” said Gee, “and I agree with their thoughts on its importance to the area.”

Gee has also said that he hopes to resume renovations to the ACC in the near future.

“In the coming weeks, I hope to announce a plan that will pick up where our earlier efforts to renovate the ACC left off,” said Gee. “We have always remained committed to golf in Ahwatukee, and the new plan will lay out specific improvements to the property – improvements that will reaffirm my commitment to a functional, long-term golf course at the Ahwatukee Country Club.”
